The 27th annual La Cloche Art Show is pleased to announce that our 2004 Distinguished Artist is Brian Atyeo. Brian Atyeo was born and raised in Toronto, and also the Peterborough area. He worked as a freelance artist during the years before moving to Calgary, taking a position with Nelson MacDonald Design as an illustrator apprentice. Not long after, he ventured on his own to open B.A. Architectural Rendering Services Ltd.. Creative painting in watercolour began in 1981, and the following ten years was an extensive time of experimentation and growth in the medium of watercolour, which demanded not only spontaneity, but also great disipline. Today, personal content is the main focus in Brian's painting, and the change to acrylic paint has better enabled him to further this exploration, while supporting his interest in design. The addition of collage in his most recent works shows a new maturity in both medium and personal expression. From his home/studio in Haliburton, Ontario, Brian instructs a limited number of painting workshops every year, and continues his own studies in the creative process. Brian's work has been collected in corporate, government and private collections throughout Canada, and internationally. For more information visit http://geocities.com/laclocheartshow/index.html

There have been reports of sightings of cougar in the La Cloche Mountains area for many years. As recent as 2002, I heard a report of a goat being killed by a cougar near Webbwood. I have hiked part of the mountains, although only the western end near Lake La Cloche. I have not seen any signs of cougar, but I am still looking. The fact that I cannot find signs does not mean that there are no cougars. It may just mean that I am not a very good tracker. I would be interested and grateful, for any information, either recent, or historical on the cougar. Regards Peter

Regarding the Alexander submission: I believe that if the request is granted to ship INCO ore & other materials to this area will be a disaster in the waiting. If the government allows this, it will be just another slap in the face to the people of Northern Ontario. It will not only be an ecological problem, but the present highway can just barely accomodate the people now using Highway 6. I guess safety of the public is not a concern. Of course the province can upgrade the highway to accomodate the Fielding Family & we all know who will get the contract for that upgrading? Fielding of course through Pioneer construction & we taxpayers will foot the bill. I hope other people agree with me on this. I really enjoy your web-site and have put one of your pictures of the Lacloche Mtns as a screen saver. Thank-you for a small piece of heaven on earth. (we have a camp on Manitoulin Island & travel from Sudbury every weekend from April to October. Keep up the good work. Judy Burton

We are pleased to announce our2005 Distinguished Artist is Susan Lampinen.
Born in Sudbury, Ontario Susan Lampinen began exploring art at an early age. The
rugged northern landscape fueled a need in Sue to represent its beauty through
her art. Her interest in nature led to a degree in environmental science while
she continued to express herself through painting and drawing.
In 1990, after working in the environmental field for several years, Sue's
part-time interest in art became a full-time profession. She opened Lampinen
Fine Art and Custom Framing, her own gallery and studio in Sudbury in 1995.
Since then, years of committed work have produced many paintings and drawings
with a respect for nature being a constant theme. Many of her more popular
images have been published as limited edition reproductions and have been
selected for cards and other publications. Sue has won the distinction of being
selected as one of the Master Pastel Painters of the World showcased in
International Artist magazine and she has had artwork chosen to be part of the
Ducks Unlimited Canada National Art Print Portfolio. Sue is a signature member
of both the Pastel Society of Canada and the Canadian Society of Painters in
Watercolour and one of her watercolour paintings is part of the Watercolour
Society's Diploma Collection in Brampton, Ontario.
This award-winning artist and instructor exhibits annually in Northern Ontario
juried shows that include the La Cloche Art Show and the Sudbury Studio Tour.
Sue has held many successful solo exhibitions as well as biannual exhibitions
with Nature in Art: 3 Visions, an art group formed along with other prominent

29th Annual La Cloche Art Show
The La Cloche Art Show committee is pleased to announce that the Distinguished
Artists for 2006 will be Paul Gauthier and RoseMarie Condon.
Paul's work captures the incredible beauty of the Canadian Wilderness in a
dynamic impressionist manner. His singular style was developed while
understudying his father Joachim Gauthier, a close contemporary of the Canadian
Group of Seven painters and a La Cloche painter with Franklin Carmichael.
Paul has traveled and painted Canada extensively including the Arctic and river
expeditions of the Firth, Nahanni and Tatshenshini. His work has been exhibited
in numerous shows and pieces belong to corporate and private collections
including Manu-Life Centre, Toronto Board of Trade, IBM Canada, Canadian General
Electric, Merrill Lynch Co., Royal Canadian Geographical Society, Sears Chicago,
Crown Life Insurance, Texaco and H.R.H. Prince Andrew.
RoseMarie studied the many disciplines involved in creating fine and graphic art
in Toronto and her paintings reflect her concern and commitment to the
preservation of our fragile landscape and her Canadian heritage. Her ability as
an illustrator enabled her to collaborate in building one of the largest studios
for retail illustration in downtown Toronto.
Wilderness excursions have always provided RoseMarie with inspiration. Her
frequent camping and canoe trips to Northern Ontario and across Canada enable
her to work in plein air whenever possible. Her paintings are in many
collections in Canada and the United States including the Royal Canadian Mounted
Police and the Canadian Coast Guard.
In August of 2006 Paul and RoseMarie will be traveling to the Arctic as part
of Arctic Quest 2006, www.NWP100.com.This expedition with 25 contemporary
Canadian artists will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the first ship to
complete the journey through the Northwest Passage.
Paul and RoseMarie are active members of the Arts and Letters Club of Toronto
and represented by John A. Libby Fine Art and Nature Scene.
